Batavia, IL — A visiting scientist from Russia, 24-year-old Maria Beloyvan was found dead in the atrium of Wilson Hall at Fermilab on the morning of May 6.

Preliminary autopsy reports from the DuPage County Coroner’s Office showed that Beloyvan died of injuries resulting from a fall. Yet, officials were not ready as of Monday to conclude whether it was an accident or how Beloyvan might have fallen.

One of about 300 scientists at the Department of Energy facility, Beloyvan was a graduate student working toward her doctorate in accelerated physics, according to Fermilab spokeswoman Judy Jackson.
